Five Elements Personality: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water Types in Korean Saju
In Korean saju, your personality element is not your birth year's element — it is your Day Master, the element of the day you were born. Here are the five element personalities, each in its Yang and Yin form, with the strengths and blind spots saju associates with them.
Which Element Is Your Personality?
Your saju chart has eight characters from your year, month, day and hour of birth. The stem of your day pillar is your Day Master: one of ten, a Yang or Yin version of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water. That is the element that describes you.
Your birth-year element (the one in "Fire Horse" or "Water Rabbit") is shared by everyone born that year and describes your outer, social layer. Many people discover their Day Master is a completely different element.
Wood: The Grower
Yang Wood, the Tall Tree, is principled and upright — a natural pioneer who protects others and thinks long-term. Blind spot: stubbornness, and a tendency to bend late and then snap under pressure.
Yin Wood, the Vine, is flexible and adaptable — a warm networker, detail-sensitive and quietly resilient. Blind spot: leaning on others too much, and indecision.

Fire: The Light
Yang Fire, the Sun, is bright and generous, honest and open, born for the stage and able to energize a room. Blind spot: impatience — starting strong and fading, or burning out.
Yin Fire, the Candle, is warm and devoted, with deep focus and an intuitive, artistic mind. Blind spot: emotional ups and downs, and keeping feelings inside.
Earth: The Ground
Yang Earth, the Mountain, is dependable and trustworthy — a patient mediator who embraces people. Blind spot: resisting change and being hard to read.
Yin Earth, the Garden, is practical and caring, nurturing and careful with details — a good coordinator. Blind spot: overthinking and hiding their own opinion.
Metal: The Edge
Yang Metal, the Blade, is decisive, loyal and fair, courageous and good at getting things done. Blind spot: blunt words and a competitive edge that can feel aggressive.
Yin Metal, the Jewel, has refined taste and high standards — precise, analytical and graceful. Blind spot: being critical, and pride that is easily hurt.
Water: The Depth
Yang Water, the Ocean, is wise and big-picture — a strong planner and free spirit who embraces many people. Blind spot: scattered focus and keeping the depths hidden.
Yin Water, the Rain, is clever, intuitive and empathetic, with a quiet, imaginative influence. Blind spot: anxiety and avoiding hard realities.
Your Element Is Only the Start
Saju reads your Day Master together with the rest of your chart: how strong it is, which elements surround it, and which element your chart needs for balance. Two people with the same Day Master can feel very different because of the other seven characters.
These are tendencies for self-reflection, not labels or predictions. Use them as a mirror — what feels true, and what you would like to grow.

Questions people ask
How do I find my five elements personality?
Find your Day Master — the element of the stem of your birth day. A Day Master calculator gives it from your birth date in seconds.
Is my Chinese zodiac element my personality element?
Not in saju. The year element (as in "Fire Horse") comes from your birth year and is shared by everyone born that year. Your Day Master comes from your birth day and is the element that describes you.
What is the difference between Yang and Yin of the same element?
Yang is the outward, larger form (a tall tree, the sun, a mountain, a blade, the ocean); Yin is the inward, finer form (a vine, a candle, a garden, a jewel, rain).
Can my element change?
Your Day Master stays the same for life. What changes are the 10-year luck cycles and yearly elements that meet your chart, which is why different seasons of life feel different.
