Why color?
Each year pillar pairs one of ten stems (five elements, each Yang or Yin) with one of twelve animals. The element gives the color: Wood is blue-green, Fire red, Earth yellow, Metal white and Water black. That makes a 60-year cycle — 2026 is the Red Horse, 2027 the Red Goat.
